Good Faith Estimate

Beginning January 1, 2022, federal laws regulating client care have been updated to include the “No Surprises” Act. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your mental health care will cost.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

While there are a number of factors that can make it challenging to provide an estimate on how long it will take for a client to complete therapeutic treatment, in general, you can expect to pay the following:

  • $145 for each 50-minute session

  • $215 for each 80-minute session

  • $285 for each 110-minute session

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.
